Dr. David Charles

Economic Adviser

Dr. Charles is one of Australia’s foremost experts on economic policy and global industry development. He is past Chairman and current Director of Insight Economics and past Co-Chairman of the Allen Consulting Group. He was formerly Secretary of Australia’s federal Department of Industry, Technology and Commerce from 1985 to 1990, and an adviser to Australia's Prime Minister on communications and transport matters within the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.


Dr. Charles previously served on the boards of the Australia-China Council, Austrade, Australian Industry Development Corporation and the Australian Graduate School of Management (now Melbourne Business School). He served from 1990 to 1993 as Australia’s first Consul General in a unified Berlin and as a Special Trade Representative in Eastern Europe following the collapse of the Soviet Union. He also worked for the United Nations Conference on Trade & Development, Geneva. He is currently Chairman of Australia’s Federal Government Automotive Industry Innovation Council, Chairman of the Advanced Manufacturing Cooperative Research Council and President of the Australian-German Association.

Dr. Charles holds a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics, and a double degree in Economics (First Class Honours) and Arts from Monash University.

Nigel Stead, FCA, CFA

Fund Non-Executive Director

Mr. Stead is an independent director of the AsiaGlobal Fund and has served in this capacity since the Fund's inception. He is a professional director with ManagementPlus Group (formerly DMTC Group) which he co-founded in 2006 to provide directorship, trustee, company administration and consulting services to the investment industry. From 1995 to 2005, he was Managing Director and Head of Global Fund Services at HSBC Institutional Trust Services (Singapore).


During Mr. Stead's tenure at HSBC Institutional Trust Services (Singapore), the firm provided trustee, custody and fund administration services to over 500 investment vehicles and funds with AUM of US$40 billion, including retail unit trusts, pension plans, REITs, hedge funds, fund of funds, and private equity funds. Prior to that, he held senior positions at the Bank of Bermuda in the Global Fund Services division in Bermuda, Luxembourg, Hong Kong and Singapore. He also previously held various positions in the accountancy profession in England and Africa.

Mr. Stead has a degree in Management Sciences from UMIST in England, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and a member of the Institute of Directors in the United Kingdom and Singapore.

James Alexander Walker

Fund Non-Executive Director

Mr. Walker is an independent director of the AsiaGlobal Fund. He was previously a partner of Clifford Chance, where he headed the firm's funds and asset management practice in Asia. He was responsible for launching Clifford Chance’s funds and asset management practice in Hong Kong in 1994, building it into one of the leading practices in Asia with teams in Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Beijing and Shanghai.


Mr. Walker has worked on some of the largest hedge funds, private equity funds and mutual funds in the region and advised various leading global and Asian fund managers, including on regulatory and licensing matters. He acted for the Government of Hong Kong on the establishment and listing of the Tracker Fund of Hong Kong (one of the first exchange-traded funds of its type in Asia) and played a leading role in the development and drafting of the PRC Securities Investment Funds law. He was an Executive Committee member of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA) Hong Kong, and Co-Chairman of the AIMA Hong Kong Regulatory Sub-Committee. He also served as a member of the Hong Kong Investment Funds Association Regulatory Sub-Committee.

Mr. Walker holds an MA (Hons) from the University of Glasgow, and a Bachelor of Laws and a Diploma of Legal Practice from the University of Edinburgh. He is admitted as a solicitor in Scotland, England & Wales and Hong Kong.
